Fast Technology Feb. 2 news, according to media reports, Universal Music recently announced the breakdown of negotiations with TikTok, no longer renew the licensing agreement.
It is reported that the cooperation between the two sides has officially expired on January 31, 2024.
As an industry giant that holds 1/3 of the global music rights, the failure of the negotiations will mean that the songs of Taylor Swift, Drake, Beyonce and many other contemporary music stars will disappear from TikTok.
In response, Universal Music issued a press release saying: "in the course of negotiations, TikTok tried to force us to accept a contract worth less than the previous transaction, which is well below fair market value and does not reflect their exponential growth."
In addition, TikTok's inactive handling of the copyright of content generated by AI and hate speech against artists is also an important reason for the failure to reach a contract renewal.
TikTok said: universal Music's words are not true, indicating that TikTok has reached an "artist first" agreement with all other record labels and copyright dealers, and Universal Music's behavior is not in the best interests of artists, songwriters and fans. The two sides failed to agree on the terms of the new agreement.
Currently, existing videos embedded with Universal Music's audio are now muted, but remain in users 'accounts despite the absence of sound.
